She also explains through metaphor that they are a "star" couple. For example, she sings "we rockafella" which references to a famous person. Another metaphor is "You can stand under my umbrella."
Symbolism is also a bug part of this song's meaning. Besides the title, "Umbrella" the word is used to portray Rihanna and her partner. She says "you can stand under my umbrella" in reference to they will be together and she can be trusted.
